D. Scott Patterson
Chief Executive Officer
Scott Patterson is the CEO of FirstService Corporation. Previously, he was the Chief Operating Officer from 2003 to 2015. He joined FirstService in 1995 as Vice President Corporate Development and was the Chief Financial Officer of the company from July 1995 until September 2003.
Prior to joining FirstService, Scott was an investment banker at Bankers Trust. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1985 and began his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario.
Jeremy Rakusin
Chief Financial Officer
Jeremy Rakusin became Chief Financial Officer of FirstService Corporation effective June 1, 2015, upon the Company’s separation via a spin-off transaction from Colliers International Group Inc. Jeremy is responsible for the overall financial management of FirstService, external and internal financial reporting, budgeting, and capital markets activities, including managing investor and lender relationships. Jeremy is also closely involved with all corporate communications and capital allocation decision-making.
Jeremy previously joined FirstService in September 2012 as Vice President, Strategy & Corporate Development, and was responsible for sourcing and executing the Company’s acquisition strategy, as well as leading other corporate strategic and growth initiatives.
Prior to joining FirstService, Jeremy was Mergers & Acquisitions Head at Raymond James Ltd. with responsibility for leading the firm’s domestic and cross-border M&A practice. Jeremy’s investment banking and corporate finance experience also includes more than 10 years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and TD Securities. Other career experience includes positions as a portfolio manager at a Toronto-based discretionary investment firm and as a securities and corporate lawyer at Toronto-based Goodmans LLP. Jeremy earned his joint MBA and Law degrees from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario. He also attended CFA Institute and was a Chartered Financial Analyst Charterholder from 2008 to 2013.
Douglas G. Cooke
Senior Vice President, Corporate Controller &
Corporate Secretary
Doug Cooke joined FirstService in 1995 as Controller, later assuming the position of Corporate Controller and Treasurer. In 2019, Doug was appointed Senior Vice President. He is currently responsible for the Company’s external and internal corporate reporting and cash management functions.
Prior to joining FirstService, Doug was Senior Internal Auditor for Unilever Canada, a subsidiary of Unilever PLC, one of the world`s largest consumer product companies. Previously, Doug has held senior financial reporting positions within the retail and financial sectors. Doug is both a chartered professional accountant and chartered financial analyst, and he began his career with KPMG. Doug holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto.
Patrick Tran
Senior Vice President, Tax
Patrick Tran has been with FirstService since 2014 and currently serves as Senior Vice President, Tax. In this role, Patrick is responsible for the overall tax reporting and compliance function and works closely with the Strategy & Corporate Development team on acquisition due diligence and structuring.
Prior to joining FirstService, Patrick worked at Maple Leaf Foods and KPMG in progressively senior tax roles. Patrick is a Chartered Professional Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto.
Steve Carpenter
Senior Vice President, Technology & Information Services
In his role as Senior Vice President, Technology and Information Services at FirstService Corporation, Steve has the strategic responsibility for information services, technology, contact center solutions, and information security.
Steve joined the FirstService family of companies in 2015 as Chief Information Officer for California Closets and CIO/CTO for the FirstService Brands division. In 2022, Steve was appointed to his current role.
Prior to FirstService, he was responsible for hosted operations at a global contact center company. In that role, he provided secure hosted services to numerous Fortune 500 companies, including healthcare and financial services. Steve also worked for a North American residential and commercial services company where he held multiple IT leadership positions over a ten-year period.
Steve has over twenty years of IT leadership experience with a focus on providing technology solutions that improve customer experience, employee productivity, data security, and maximizing return on investment. Steve’s background includes studies in Business Administration and service in the United States Army.
Angela Bai
Vice President, Strategy & Corporate Development
Angela serves as Head of Strategy & Corporate Development at FirstService Corporation. In this role, Angela is responsible for driving acquisition growth across all of FirstService’s business platforms. She is also closely involved in the formulation and execution of the Company’s corporate strategy and growth initiatives.
Prior to FirstService, Angela worked at Scotiabank, where she led a team responsible for execution-related activities for new prospects and existing clients within the National Accounts group. Formerly, she worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Corporate Finance practice in both Toronto and Melbourne, Australia, and began her career in the Audit Group at Ernst & Young.
Angela is a Chartered Professional Accountant and earned her Bachelor of Applied Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto and her Master of Management and Professional Accounting from the Rotman School of Business.
Abel Juarez
Senior Vice President, Compliance and Risk Management
Before his tenure at FirstService, Abel played pivotal senior roles at Orvana Minerals and George Weston Limited, both based in Canada. Abel began his professional journey at EY in Mexico, where he conducted external financial audits across various industries within the public and private sectors. Abel has over two decades of experience performing audit, risk, and compliance engagements across Canada, USA, Mexico, Spain, Bolivia, Brazil, and Argentina.
In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Abel is an active member of the Board of Governors at the Ontario College of Arts and Design University (OCADU) located in Toronto.
Abel is a Chartered Professional Accountant and holds a certification in Risk Management Assurance. His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Public Accounting and a Master of Business Administration, both of which he earned with honors from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico.
