Company History

FirstService was originally launched in 1989 by Jay S. Hennick, our Founder and Chairman, with a Toronto-based commercial swimming pool and recreational facility management business which he founded as a teenager in 1972. FirstService became a publicly traded company in 1993 via an initial public offering on The Toronto Stock Exchange in 1993 and subsequently listed on the NASDAQ Exchange in 1995. On June 1, 2015, the businesses currently owned by FirstService today were separated from Colliers International via a spin-off transaction and FirstService became a new, independent company publicly traded on the TSX and NASDAQ (see "Corporate and Stock Events" section of our website for further information).

Over the past 30 years, FirstService has developed and refined its unique approach to growing its operations "one step at a time" both through internal growth and acquisitions. See further details in the "Operating Philosophy" and "Becoming Our Partner" sections of our website.
